Even at five weeks old, baby chicks are doing what chickens do - taking a sand bath! ChiChi had her first sand bath a couple of weeks ago. Whilst scratching for food (another thing she quickly picked up from the other chickens), she discovered that the loose soil was something special and promptly lay down, kicking up sand with her feet and flapping her wings madly, a grown-up chicken in perfect miniature!
ChiChi is a Bantam of uncertain stock, but obviously with some D'Uccle and/or Silkie blood in her and is the most gorgeous creamy colour with some black spots in her wing feathers. She's also developing a little hat, therefore the Silkie thought.
She spends most of the day with me inside my Studio, either on top of my desk or roosting on one of my desk drawers, but each day now she is getting more and more comfortable with spending time in the garden and since she's discovered sand bathing, I actually have a problem getting her to come back inside again!
Already loving to graze on the lawn
Very alarmed at a large insect!

ReplyDeleteShe's growing up really fast now Liz (might be a he!), doesn't want to sleep in her basket anymore. Tonight I'm going to wait and see what she wants to do and where she wants to go and sleep.
